Guide to Shopping and Eating in Gough Street Hong Kong
Gough Street, dubbed “the coolest street in Hong Kong” by SassyHongKong.com, has had a bit of a makeover recently. It’s still the laid back Noho boutique shopping destination of choice for design conscious Hong-Kongers, but it’s all gone a bit posh! Excellent news, because now you can spend the morning browsing the boutique and lunching with friends whilst pretending you’re in the Village in New York. Here’s our guide on how to spend an hour or two in Gough Street:
1. Jump in a cab and head down Aberedeen Street getting dropped at the corner of Gough Street and Aberdeen Street. Alternatively head to MTR Sheung Wan Station Exit A2. Walk along the Bonham Street to Wellington Street, turn to the Gough Street at Aberdeen Street.
2. If you need a morning coffee before you get started, Agnes B Cafe and Florist and right across the street from our shop. The florist flies in unique species from Africa and can create lovely bouquets to take home. Get a real coffee whilst you wait.
3. Just opposite Agnes B cafe , petit bazaar (of course!) is still going strong, jump over the road to discover the kids emporium of choice, toys, clothing, games, etc. If you’d like to shop and leave your items to pick up before you head home, you’re welcome. Just let our sales staff know. We’ve got an upstairs filled with clothes, furniture and stationary items as well as the ground floor displays.
4. Now one for the boys: new kid on the block Timothy Oulton is THE place to go for British theme leather goods and interior design. I popped in there and was overwhelmed by the smell of gorgeous leather. You can also get Oxford University coats of arms, wallets, leather chairs, trunks and more.
5. Not content with leather goods, then try Homeless, the Home Design store with gadgets, lighting and more. It’s great for chic grown up decor, with a distinctly modern feel.
6. If you’d really like to splurge on some bling, then Kimlai is the place to go. KIMLAI specialises in modern contemporary fine jewellery in a strong design language that is simple, elegant with sophisticated and detailed refinement. We told you Gough Street had gone posh! If you’d like to cheat, check out the Tunique jewelry stand at petit bazaar, where you can pick up budget bling perfect for kids and grown ups.
7. Feeling peckish? The famous Kau Kee beef brisket noodles 九記牛腩 (21 Gough Street, tel: +852 2850-5967) counts actors Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Nick Cheung and Takeshi Kaneshiro as its regulars according to blogger camemberu.com. I’ve seen the queues outside and often wondered what they’re for – apparently the wait time isn’t that bad, so why not try this HK institution?
8. If that’s not your thing, then finish up your shopping trip with a cupcake from Kisses or a whole piece of cake art from Ms B’s.
Phew. Now there’s 8 great reasons to visit Gough Street right there! See you soon…
