HK Island
1. Victoria Peak Garden – Former Gardens of the Governor

Originally the Summer Residence of the Governor of Hong Kong, the Victoria Peak Garden has since turned into the most beloved public garden in the city. The garden offers rare green lawns one can rarely find in the city and there’s also a play area for kids to burn off some energy! Even though it no longer houses the Governors’ residence, the old Gate House has been preserved as the Gate Lodge. It’s the perfect way to give your kids a little history lesson about Hong Kong. Bring your picnic blanket and basket, and scooters and enjoy a day out relaxing and scooting around.

2. Cyberport Waterfront Park – Dog Lover Paradise By The Sea

Located in the Southern District, Cyberport Waterfront Park is a hit among dog owners and families. Overlooking a beautiful skyline by the sea, it’s a great spot for flying kites, having a picnic and spending some quality time with your family and furry friends. There’s also an area for outdoor movie screening at Arcade@Cyberport every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday.

3. The Historical Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park
Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park offers much more than just a picnic spot. The park has a swimming pool complex, an artificial turf soccer pitch, basketball courts and other recreational activities. We also love how it’s located right next to the sea promenade, which makes it a perfect spot to watch the sunset. Follow the Sun Yet-Sen trail to go to the park and make your trip a fun, educational field trip!

4. Tamar Park, Admiralty – An Urban Park in the City
This is the picnic place-to-be if you want the Victoria Harbour view as you munch on your picnic snacks! Tamar Park is located on Harcourt Road in Admiralty. You will find people having their picnic, lunch, exercising or simply chilling in the sizable greenery. It’s a few minutes walk from the Admiralty MTR station so it’s easily accessible.

5. Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre, Disneyland
The land of magic does not end within the theme park, Hong Kong Disneyland offers more! After a 15-minute walk from Hong Kong Disneyland, you will reach Inspiration Lake, a recreation spot with such a scenic mountain view of Lantau Island that would make you forget you’re in Hong Kong. There’s also a boat centre where you can hire paddle boats and paddle away in the largest artificial lake in the city. If water sports is not for you, you can also rent surrey bikes for a ride.

6. Art Park, West Kowloon – The Cultural Hub

Being one of the largest cultural projects in the world, the West Kowloon Cultural District provides 23 hectares of public open space, with a stretching 2 km harbour front promenade. There’s plenty of open lawn space for a picnic and relaxing for the day, with the most stunning view of Victoria Harbour right in front of you. The best thing is that it’s super dog-friendly so you’ll get to meet lots of furry friends there too! If you don’t have time to prepare your own food, you can also visit the cafes and restaurants there for a quick bite. After spending a bit of time under the sun, check out the cultural programmes including open-air performances, art exhibitions and markets (the programmes rotate throughout the year).

7. Jordan Valley Park, Kwun Tong – Radio-Controlled Model Car Racing Park

A somewhat confusing name that led many to believe this park is in Jordan, Jordan Valley Park is in fact, the largest park in Kwun Tong. Besides the central lawn, there’s also a maze garden and a radio-controlled model car circuit internationally known for model car racers. There’s also a botanical garden, a greenhouse and a horticultural education centre so plenty of fun and exploring for families who’d like to do something a little different during the weekend.

8. Nam Cheong Park – Sea of Yellow Flowers
What makes Nam Cheong Park stand out from the rest of the parks in Hong Kong is the abundance of golden trumpet trees planted right in the heart of the park. The trees typically go in full bloom every Spring. Like many government parks, you will find kid-friendly facilities such as a children’s tricycle play area, playground and jogging track.

New Territories
9. Tai Po Waterfront Park – Full of Fun
The signature of this park is definitely the Spiral Lookout Tower, which will give you a magnificent panorama of the Tolo Harbour. Besides a grassy space for picnics, there’s also a kite-flying area, bowling greens, a model boat pool, the list goes on… There’s even an insect house where you can learn about amazing critters! You will also spot plenty of bikers around the vicinity as they cycle along the promenade.

10. The Hong Kong Velodrome Park, Tseung Kwan O – Not Just for Cyclists
While the Hong Kong Velodrome Park is known for cycling, it actually offers a variety of other leisure and sports facilities too. You can find a model boat pool, a skatepark, an amphitheatre and even a sport climbing wall there. The extensive lawn sits next to artificial lakes, creating a stunning landscape area.
